Aftermarket Auto Parts Alternative OEM

Aftermarket auto parts is an excellent alternative to original equipment manufacturers (OEM) parts and they are now gaining more popularity and wider acceptance. This is a review of the advantages of aftermarket's auto parts and how best to get them.

Aftermarket's auto parts are not made by auto makers themselves but by third-party auto parts companies, and they are competing now with OEM parts. Because of the question of quality of after market auto parts in the past, an NGO called the Certified Automotive Parts Association (CAPA) was established, precisely in 1987 to test and certify parts used for auto body repairs.

CAPA set a very rigid, standard tests which includes; rust resistance, metal composition, screws, and chipping and scratching resistance, in all the tests it cannot be really proven that OEM parts are superior to aftermarket auto parts, and despite some criticism from some auto parts buyers, aftermarket's auto parts are still very advantageous in many ways and they compare favorably well with OEM parts, particularly in the following areas;

  1. In terms of price, aftermarket's auto parts are categorically less expensive than OEM parts, which benefits not only the car owner, but also the insurance company that pays for the repairs and the auto repair shops as well.
  2. Aftermarket's auto parts benefits older cars more, because many old models that would need to have been totaled can actually be made functional and to perform well with the use of aftermarket's auto parts. No OEM is available for such vehicles, needless to say, this is a big relief to old model cars owner.
  3. Aftermarket auto parts gives good warranties just like OEM auto parts, because when a replacement part is installed, a new warranty takes over.

All said, aftermarket car parts manufacturers are working even harder to improve on the quality and to erase the negative attitude that some people still have for the products, but then it has come to stay. The important point that makes the big difference when you buy aftermarket car part is the dealer you buy from. If you buy from auto parts store that stock the products of well standardized auto parts with the right specifications you will not have problems.
